NUTRITION FOR ATHLETES

Fueling and Hydration for Endurance Sports

You might have heard that “nutrition is the fourth discipline of triathlon” or perhaps you have experienced for yourself what can happen when a fueling plan isn’t in place for a long run. (Dizziness, lack of energy, bonking…)

While a solid training plan is essential, so too is a proper understanding of nutrition and what is required for endurance sport. Fueling for sports performance is a key component to reaching goals, feeling your best while training, and success in the recovery process… and it’s an element many athletes neglect.

I totally get it: without guidance, nutrition for running and triathlon can feel really confusing. There is so much conflicting information on the internet leaving you wondering, “Should I intermittent fast?”, “How many carbs should I eat per hour while training?”, “How much protein should I have per day?”, “How can I cook vegetables so they taste good!?”, “What if I hate gels?”.

When I work with an athletes on nutrition for sport, I answer all of these confusing questions and provide you a custom plan to support your body for your unique sport and goals.

The goal? Allowing you to produce the best results and feel great while training, competing and recovering.

Nutrition is the often-forgotten piece of the sports performance puzzle.

What you’ll learn

Continuous glucose monitoring

Levels Health for athletes

Understanding your metabolic health can be a huge advantage when training and competing in sport. With the introduction of continuous glucose monitor (CGM) technology, we can receive real-time blood sugar readings to better understand the impact of our food and lifestyle choices, as well as additional stressors the body encounters.

CGMs can help athletes:

  • Understand their metabolism and fueling

CGMs reveal how athlete’s blood sugar levels change throughout the day, before, during, and after training. This can help in avoiding erratic fluctuations that can hinder performance and instead better manage metabolism and fueling.

  • Know what to consume and when

CGMs help athletes understand when and what to eat to improve energy supply and muscle recovery.

  • Gain insight into dietary needs

CGMs can help athletes understand their dietary needs in the form of specific carbohydrate choices and timing, as well as and monitor training load and recovery.

Jillian works with athletes 1:1 to use Levels CGM technology to up-level nutrition practices.

  • "She was able to explain how the food choices they make has an impact on performance, she has alap empowered them to learn what works best for their particular sport."

Jillian has worked with my two teens who are active in sports (swimming and Ultimate Frisbee). She explains the connection between nutrition and sports performance. She was able to explain how the food choices they make has an impact on performance, she has alap empowered them to learn what works best for their particular sport.

Jillian worked closely with my teen who was diagnosed with PCOS to improve her overall metabolism. After a three month period, the labs showed a significant improvement. (Most recent A1C is back to normal range!)

I work in healthcare and Jillian has supported several patients to successfully achieve improved health outcomes by focusing on nutrition choices throughout the various stages of life including menopause.

Jillian is knowledgable and is able to explain nutrition concepts regardless of age. I continue to refer patients to her. I have seen excellent results and can vouch that her recommendations have long lasting benefits.

  • "I am able to focus better, have much more energy throughout the day (no midday slumps), and am properly fueled for all activities."

I recently worked with Jillian for nutritional coaching, and cannot recommend her enough!

The recommendations that Jillian made in terms of my nutrition were practical and tailored to my specific needs. She introduced new information, food products, and lifestyle changes over the course of our three months working together. Incorporating these recommendations over time made it easier to make them part of my routine and not just changes I made for a week.

I have noticed such a difference in my day-to-day since working with Jillian. I am able to focus better, have much more energy throughout the day (no midday slumps), and am properly fueled for all activities.

Jillian was supportive and encouraging the entire time we worked together, and continues to be an ardent cheerleader of my progress even after we wound down our formal coaching sessions.

With Jillian’s help, I am much more confident in choosing ingredients that make me feel my best and I know that I can set myself up for success on a daily basis when it comes to nutrition, exercise, and overall wellness.

  • "It has been so freeing to work with Jillian. Life altering, honestly."

Since I started working with Jillian, I have lost over 10 lbs and transformed my relationship with food altogether. It has been so freeing to work with Jillian. Life altering, honestly. Jillian helped me forgive myself for being a little heavy and developing pre-diabetes (despite lots of exercise). It turns out that it’s not my fault I was getting so hungry and had so many cravings all the time. I wasn’t eating near enough protein or healthy fats. I also wasn’t eating at the right times of day or in the right order. And as a coach, Jillian is always available and each session is information-packed and customized to your specific situation. I highly recommend working with Jillian to anyone!es here.
